Educational Program

“Teaching immigrants the Greek language, history and culture - Odysseas”

The General Secretariat for Lifelong Learning - Ministry of National Education, Lifelong Learning and Religious Affairs - has in cooperation with the Municipalities of the Northern Suburbs of Athens started providing free Greek language lessons. The registration process has already begun and new classes (morning - afternoon) will be created throughout the 2010 – 2011 school year. The project is co-funded by the European Union and the Greek State.

The educational program has two levels

A1 Level (Introductory level – 125 hours – twice a week): this is a basic course comprising lessons in the Greek language, History and Cultureand everyday life practices.

A2 Level (Advanced level – 175 hours – three times a week): this course combines more advanced Greek language lessons with further elements of Greek history and culture. After having attended the A2 Level class, students will have the opportunity to take the exams of the General Secretariat for Lifelong Learning, the passing of which is a necessary prerequisite for securing the status of long – term resident in Greece according to the Greek legislation.

The lessons are offered free of cost. Furthermore the students will be given educational material (in printed and electronic form) in order to reinforce their skills and abilities. Each class will be composed of 15-20 students. The lessons will take place either in the morning or the afternoon according to the choice of the students.

Candidates will be assigned to the A1 or the A2 Level after having completed a rudimentary Greek language skills test. At the end of the A1 and/or the A2 Level vigorous assessment processes will be put into place in order to evaluate the students’ abilities and a certificate of Lifelong Training will be granted upon successful completion in both levels.   You can sign up for the program online:
